Clear the Clutter
Cleaning Up Your Canvas Dashboard

Hello WSD Educators!
Your Canvas Dashboard is the front door to your online classroom—so why not make it neat, organized, and easy to navigate? A clean dashboard saves you clicks, reduces confusion, and helps you focus on the courses that matter most.
How to Clean up Your Dashboard
Over time, your Canvas Dashboard can fill up with past courses, test shells, or trainings you no longer use regularly. This can make it harder to find the courses you need right away, especially during a busy school day. Taking a few minutes to tidy things up will save you time and frustration later. Start with these 3 easy steps:

STEP 1
Identify Which Courses Should Be Visible
Ask yourself: Do I use this course daily?
Keep your current term courses, active training courses, and any sandbox you use often.
Hide anything from past terms or infrequently used trainings.

Use the “All Courses” Page
From your Dashboard, click the Courses (1) link in the global navigation bar.
Select All Courses (2) to see every course you have access to.
On this page, you’ll see a list of all current and past enrollments.

Favorite Your Active Courses
Click the star next to each course you want on your Dashboard.
Only favorited courses will appear on your Dashboard—everything else stays tucked away in the All Courses list.
Bonus Tip: Adjust Your Course Cards
Rename nicknames for courses by clicking the three dots on the course card—this won’t change the name for students.
Color-code your cards for quick visual recognition.
Remove the color overlay if you prefer to see the course’s image clearly

Wrapping Up
A few minutes of Canvas dashboard cleanup now can save you countless clicks all year long. By keeping only the courses you actually use front and center, you’ll make navigating Canvas faster, easier, and less stressful—leaving you more time for the fun part: teaching.
